For those of you not following this program's development cycle, Pinball Unit3D is a couple year old project that seeks to merge FP tables and editor + Unity 3D engine + vpinmame. It's getting close to its first demo release, they're hoping before Christmas. Here is the uber-long thread:

Anyhow, BilboX's last post indicates what's to be expected and not from the upcoming demo. MODs, move this topic where you'd like.

Hi guys.

I am happy to see that you are really hoping for this release. You saw a lot of things in these videos and I want to be clear, just to prevent disappointment:

This demo will be the Player demo, meaning it will probably not include all "developpers" and "editor" parts.

What will NOT be in this demo:

- FPT import

- Material Editor

- Head Tracking

- Lighmaps

- Shadows

- LED Wiz support

What will MAYBE be in this demo

- Curves Editor

- Physics Tuner

- Early Oculus Rift Support

- Debug shot

What will be INCLUDED in the demo

- Full Player mode Simulation (including modded VPInMame.dll)

- Some tables, depending on finishing state (The Addams Familly, Terminator 2, and maybe, Black Knight 2000, Dr Dude, Scared Stiff)

- The associated commented sample scripts for educational purpose (but you will be able to modify them if you wish)

- Highly customizable cabinet mode

- Customizable Input System

- Multiple Cameras system

- Complex flippers simulation

- Additionnal DMD display

- ...

- and Fun I hope :)

One of the authors posted the latest Unit3D Pinball version of Dr. Dude in his cab on youtube. Note the ball and flipper interactions w/ the Unity physics.. looking good. :)

It looks great. The only negative is, perhaps due to an optica illusion, but does the ball not seem to be a tiny bit too big?

I'm sure that can be tweaked. :) I think he was using that from prior runs because it was easier to see the lateral movement and spin on the ball w/ the image pattern he had attached to it.

It seems to be really cool but I hope they are working on the physics - because it's totally wrong (I follow their videos since the beginning and it never changed).
I think they focused too much on "mame/rom" and graphics while the most important is the gameplay.
I hope physics is not limited by unity (it is an "all around" physics engine after all).

I'm sure once things get in a releasable state they will be swarmed by the physics tweakers. :) We all know how long and difficult the process is to birth something of this complexity, glad we're nearing a milestone here though to compliment the BAM advances.

I thought the exact same thing watching the latest BK2K video. The play looks wrong and the ball appears to float very slowly at times. I'm sure there will be tweaks available but seeing as how physics tweaking here at GoPinball has riled a few feathers I can't wait to see how PU3D (or whatever they will call it) pans out with the crowd :)

I've been wanting to post for a quite a while. I saw your site a few years back when I first built my MAME cabinet (way before I got into PinCabs) and it's awesome to see some familiar names in alternate hobbies / forums :) Just wanted to say awesome work and thanks for your IV/Play (and MameUI) frontends :)
