Thanks for this Steve. 3D modeling has always been something that has interested me. I will give this program a try and see how easy it is for completely inexperienced person to pick-up.

I also thank you Steve for this.
I come to try out this program, when I first get the Skateball table finished.
I have previous experience with 3D modeling (AutoCAD), but I have never liked (and actually used) the MilkShape program. Let 's see how this program feels.

I decided to give this a whirl as well (Be scared, be very scared) and so far looks quite easy, but just started. Since FP is so limited in the amount of modern models, like ramp posts etc, this will come in handy.

Thanks for pointing this one out.

thx Seppo, really nice job indeed!
glad you like it :)

Some very cool thing with XSI EXP :

compare to other 3D package, the world size and coordinate are exactly the same as FP so when you create very completed object they will always fit in the FP world with no modification needed in Milkshape.

UV-Unwrapping is super easy

manipulation of the world is intuitive : Press on the "S" key + the mouse buttons(left-middle-right) to easily ZOOM, PAN and ROTATE/ORBIT in any view.

Full of easy to use manipulator to : bend, twist, cut, warp, merge, reduce polygon count

I sound like I want to sell the program because I own the company ...the thing is, I tried to learn 3Dmax, lightwave, truespace and maya prior to that and it was epic fail on most level..While 2 weeks only with tutorial got me to the point I am in 3D, so I cannot recommend it enough..

Hey thanks for this! I have been using Milkshape and like it once I learned it, but some aspects of it are painfully lacking - like the texture and animation parts, so I use other programs as well. So I am allways up for trying any other packages - I will bash this around a bit this weekend :)
Thanks again :)

I've been using 3dsMax (also from Autodesk) to create models for the 3dArcade frontend. Is XSI EXP able to import/export models from 3dsMax in either the .max or .3ds formats? If not, is Future Pinball able to use models exported from 3dsMax, and what format what I save in? I have several FP model project ideas I'm itching to try my chops on but would prefer not to have to learn another 3d modelling program to do so unless necessary.

you will always need milkshape to convert accross format.

I will try to make it the less confusing possible :
the official format of the fp model is .FPM but its a wrap of the milkshape model with special attribute. to insert those attributes and convert a MilkShape 3D model in .FPM you need FPM EDITOR

Whatever Package you use, you can create object for FP, :3ds, obj, lwo, dxf, etc..
you only need to import your object in milkshape because it need to be convert to the milkShape format anyway.

Milkshape is really cool as it get the UVWrapping in place throughout the process.

Hope it help :)
