Well, I've gotten the FP program running, however the first few tables I've downloaded didn't have a .fpl file, just said file. Do I need to convert these in order for FP to run them? The Pirates of the Caribbean was one of these I downloaded but was not in .fpl format.

The .fpl files are libraries of sounds/gfx for the tables. Many Tables now are self contained in the .fpt file.
It's the .fpt file you need to load into Future Pinball.
